Paul Driskill is an Oregon native, who works in several media, including drawing, painting, print making, and photography. His current works are in colored pencil, using Prismacolor pencils, on acid free paper.

Many artists and styles have influenced
Mr. Driskill’s work, primarily Andy Warhol, Patrick Nagel, Nelson Stevens, and 19th century French posters.

His works are vividly colored, using nonrepresentational colors (note the heavy use of blue hues for shading on his subject’s faces).

His current subject matter is primarily vintage film stars, from the early Hollywood era, up to the 1960s. Celebrities of yesteryear were stylish and glamorous, with highly polished veneers. Paul’s work captures this bygone elegance with a thoroughly modern, and extremely stylized treatment.

In November, 2007, Paul is publishing his first set of limited edition prints, debuting with the “Marlene Triptych,” published in a small format consisting of three variations of the same image.

About The artist

The Marlene Dietrich home page in Leeds, England, is featuring one of Paul’s pieces. He is extremely honored that one of his pieces has been selected to appear on their site (in the "Dietrich Portraits & Sketches" section).

It really is a truly excellent site, with plenty of information, photos, and history. Any Marlene fan should take a look!
